Buying & Selling

End User

The final buyer who will actually use the domain for their business — not resell it.

What Is End User?

An end user is the ultimate buyer of a domain name — someone who intends to actually use the domain for a business, project, or personal brand rather than reselling it to another investor. End users are the most desirable buyers in the domain market because they typically pay the highest prices.

The distinction between end users and investors matters for pricing. An investor buying a domain for resale needs to buy below market value to maintain profit margin. An end user buys based on the domain's value to their business, which often far exceeds the aftermarket 'wholesale' price.

As a startup founder shopping for a domain, you are an end user. Domain sellers know this and price accordingly. This isn't unfair — the domain is worth more to you (as the foundation of your brand) than to another investor (as one of many inventory items).

Why This Matters for Startups

As an end user, you'll typically pay more than an investor would for the same domain — and that's actually rational. A domain that becomes the foundation of a company worth millions is easily worth $5,000–$50,000 or more. The key is knowing the market so you pay a fair end-user price, not an inflated one. Research comparable sales, understand the domain's quality objectively, and negotiate from informed confidence rather than emotional attachment.
