Aged Domain

A domain registered for years, often valued for its history, backlinks, and SEO authority.

What Is Aged Domain?

An aged domain is a domain name that has been continuously registered for an extended period — typically several years or more. Age is one of many factors that contribute to a domain's value, though its importance is often overstated.

The real value of an aged domain usually comes from what was built during those years: backlinks from other websites, historical traffic patterns, existing brand recognition, and accumulated trust in search engines. A domain registered in 2005 with quality backlinks from reputable sites is more valuable than one registered the same year but never used.

Aged domains are particularly sought after for SEO purposes — established domains with clean histories can give new websites a head start in search rankings compared to brand-new registrations.

Why This Matters for Startups

When buying a premium domain for your startup, the registration age can be a bonus — but don't pay a significant premium for age alone. What matters more is the domain's name quality, backlink profile, and whether it has any negative history (spam, penalties). Always check a domain's history using the Wayback Machine and backlink tools before purchasing.
